Glass Den

This detailed glass banana slug sculpture/ornament was lovingly hand made in our small family studio on the coast of Northern California. It's made with a more durable type of glass called borosilicate (the type used in scientific applications, and that Pyrex used to be made of). It has also been kiln annealed to increase its strength. The yellow coloring was created by vaporizing a piece of silver, and using that vapor to coat the glass, giving it a yellow iridescence. I'm making these as christmas ornaments, but they make nice suncatchers too!
It's a life sized, realistic sculpture of the Ariolimax californicus (native to California and Oregon). It also happens to be the school mascot of UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) - Sammy the Slug.
A few of the photos show two slugs together, but this listing is for just one slug.
